Situated just a stone’s throw from the world-famous Serpentine Lake in London’s Hyde Park, Queen’s Gate Lodge is one of the countless properties across our capital which played only a supporting role in our history, but which still merits preserving within its sylvan setting: with multiple products from the Wykamol-Triton range being employed during recent renovation work to help address serious damp problems.
The vital work was carried out by long term user of Wykamol-Triton products, Lewes based Archer Specialist Treatments, acting as a sub-contract for the refurbishment contractor appointed by the Government department which functions as the landlord. However, the specification of the Wykamol Technoseal damp proof membrane, injected DPC system and waterproofing admixture came from the project surveyors, anxious to halt the damage caused to the single storey stone structure by rising and penetrating damp.

Paul Halliwell, a Director of Archer Specialist Treatments, reported: “We were asked to quote against the schedule of works for this renovation and repair project, which had to be carried out to a very tight timetable while the tenant was temporarily decanted. We therefore worked very long hours over a two-week period in August/September. The place was in really quite bad condition due to the high ground levels surrounding the building and presumably high ground water levels - being so close to the Hyde Park Lake. The Technoseal is quite easy to apply as a brush on coating, but we first had to put a render finish across the stonework walls and floors, which we mixed using the Wykamol RenderProof."
"The walls also got a vapour barrier and a finishing plaster, while in a number of areas we completed the installation of injected chemical damp proofing to counter the saturated condition. Then the scope of our involvement further included reinstating the original sand-and-cement skirting details around some of the rooms which had been badly damaged. These were run in the traditional manner using a ‘horse and slipper’. Despite its size, this is a prestigious property, in sight of the opera house, which deserves to be preserved and while we didn’t need their assistance on this job, we are still getting very good technical and logistical support from Wykamol’s sales team since they took over the Triton brands.”
Wykamol Technoseal Damp Proof Paint is a ready-to-use, SBR based liquid damp-proofing membrane providing a seamless barrier against water penetration, radon gas, methane, and carbon dioxide. With its non-toxic, non-hazardous, and solvent-free formulation, it is ideal for wet areas, such as walls and floors in wet rooms and kitchens. This versatile product can be easily applied by brush, roller or high-pressure spray and can be used on a variety of surfaces including blockwork, stone, brick, timber, and concrete. While intended for internal use, it can also be applied externally when rendered or otherwise protected. www.wykamol.com
